Iscar Announces A Completely New Family Of Slitting Cutters Applying Tang-Grip Technology And The Sturdiness Of Sumo Tec Grades

Iscar currently offers a family of high-performance slitting tools that merge the convenience and security of Tang-Grip clamping with the added durability of the brand new Sumo Tec insert grades.

The idea, already validated effective in Tang-Grip parting tools, has now been extended to slitting cutters. In the patented Tang-Grip clamping system, inserts are press-fit into their pockets accompanied by a distinct hand tool, and are clutched firmly in place without the need for clamps, upper jaws or set screws that can weaken the insert and hinder chip flow. The pocket configuration utilizes cutting forces to retain the insert seated solidly in position, eliminating any prospect of insert pull-out. The Tang-Grip clamping system also fosters increased accurate slitting cuts plus longer pocket and insert lifespan.

Iscar's Sumo Tec insert grades feature a specialized post-coating treatment which substantially improves tool life and constancy.

Introduced in late 2007, the new Sumo Tec treatment flattens the insert's coated surface to banish microscopic stress raisers, reduce heat and friction and enhance chip flow. The result is enhanced toughness and opposition to chipping and built-up edge, all leading to greater tool lifespan. The golden-colored flank on Sumo Tec inserts facilitates wear detection. Size for size, Tangslit cutters give more teeth than Iscar's SGSF cutters, permitting higher feed rates.

Their superior rigidity leads to straighter, increased accurate cuts and reduced vibration even in large-diameter cutters. The brand new Tangslit TGSF cutters come in 100 to 160 mm diameters, 3 and 4 mm widths and can accept the exact same assortment of inserts as Tang-Grip parting tools. Additional sizes will be added.

Available Sumo Tec grades for Tangslit cutters include:
IC808, with a tough submicron substrate below a Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating, offering excellent resistance to impact loads and built-up edge. This grade is suggested for slitting heat resistant alloys, austenitic stainless steel, hard alloys and carbon steel.

IC830, giving greater toughness for heavier parting & grooving involving interrupted cuts. It is fitting for all stainless steel & high temperature alloys.

IC908, a hard, fine-grain substrate with excellent chipping resistance, joined with a completely new Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating. It is perfect for nodular or gray cast iron.

IC928 and 928A, PVD TiAlN-coated tough grades fitting for stainless steel, high temperature alloys and other alloy steels. These grades are likewise favored for interrupted cuts and heavy operations.

Each Tangslit and Tang-Grip inserts are available in J- or C-type chipformer geometries from Iscar.
