A Tuesday Evening Out With Classmates At A Local Saloon Leads To Excessive And Abusive Drinking And Symptoms Of An Alcohol Overdose

When Lois was in high school, she had established a reputation as a studious individual who rarely, if ever, partied with her classmates. She seemed nearly obsessed about "shining" academically so that she would be able to pursue a career that she not only enjoyed but one that also gave her a degree of financial security.

After Lois finished high school, she applied to and was accepted into a greatly admired program in philosophy. Her reasoning for this decision was that this subject area would be good training for law school and would not be similar to the majority of law school applicants who decide to take political science as their undergraduate major.

Lois was the kind of individual who worked relentlessly to finish what she started and then would take a break when she could. It just so happens, nonetheless, that a good number of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks did not involve drinking. Evidently, Lois was anything but a party-girl. Now that her final examinations for her second year in law school were finished and feeling proud of the fact that she had done extremely well on her tests, nonetheless, she felt like celebrating.

So Lois and a few of her friends from the university went to a local pub where they had a few wine coolers. As the evening went by, Lois and her pals continued to drink. In fact, she was having such a magnificent time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.

After drinking about an hour when Lois started to speak in a confused manner, slur her words, and then fall unconscious, nonetheless, her pals promptly knew that they needed to call that they needed to call the emergency number and ask for emergency assistance because they suspected that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was attentive to the fact that she had dodged a bullet and almost died from an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was grateful to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat dejected knowing that she had almost passed away the previous night. Her parents were aware how hard she worked at college and how little she let herself have any fun. Nevertheless, they also were aware that Lois needed to avoid careless drinking.

Consequently, they suggested that down the road, whenever a drinking circumstance arises, that she always drink in moderation. Lois was fine with this and gave her word to her friends and to her Mom and Dad that she would never again drink in an excessive manner. In Lois's own words, "I never thought that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local university newspaper. I now realize that irresponsible drinking is not the best for me. I proclaim that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also possessed. Stated more explicitly, she quickly grasped the fact that she had made a mistake and decided that she would never make the same mistake again. As a matter of fact, she now realized that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of careless and irresponsible drinking can end in a loss of life.
