An Alcohol Addicted Person Enrolls In Rehab And Receives Alcohol Detoxification And Rehab For His Alcohol Addiction

Donald used to talk big to his drinking friends how he could keep a full-time job and get smashed almost every night. Sadly, after engaging in this destructive lifestyle for approximately two-and-a-half years, he started to exhibit several alcohol related issues.

For instance, he had a real difficult time getting up for work because he felt so drained when he got up. Furthermore, almost every morning Donald suffered through a painful hangover. Undoubtedly, the mixture of his lack of energy and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel motivated to go to work. To make things more difficult, approximately a week ago he received his third drunk driving arrest in the past nine months.

To complicate things further, at work his last two work assessments were less than adequate. And finally, his relationship with his girlfriend had declined due to his depression, lack of patience, angry outbursts, and his financial difficulties.

Though Donald was only twenty-five years old, he frankly started to look like he was in his late forties. Sadly, this is what abusive and excessive drinking can do to a person. And in all honesty he understood that he was suffering from the negative consequences of alcohol addiction or alcohol abuse and that he was too young to give up his life to irresponsible and hazardous drinking. So initially he tried to drink in moderation. Unfortunately, he soon found out that he lost all control after ingesting his first drink. Since this was an incident that was repeated virtually every time he drank, this troubled him greatly. In fact, he began to wonder if he was exhibiting some of the stages of alcoholism.

After talking about his alcohol drinking problems and his irresponsible drinking with his girlfriend, he eventually decided to schedule an appointment to see his healthcare professional. When Donald saw his family doctor, he actually stated that he has been drinking in an excessive manner, that he may be manifesting behavior that is representative of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to stop drinking. He said that drinking in moderation does not work well for him and consequently, he wants to learn how he can live without drinking alcohol.

Donald also told his healthcare practitioner about his depression and how this mental health issue was adversely affecting his relationship with his lady friend. His healthcare practitioner referred Donald to Doctor DeRosa, a drug and alcohol addiction specialist, who influenced Donald to register in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center as an in-patient for alcohol detoxification and alcohol treatment. Fortunately, Donald would also be able to get medical attention for his depression at this treatment center.

After three months of intensive rehab, Donald left the in-patient rehab center and continued his recovery via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and via outpatient counseling. Encouraged to change his life in a healthier way, Donald joined a fitness center and started working out three or four times per week. Within nine months Donald was a new man. He was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, he was not depressed anymore, and most important of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also became more patient, he did not resort to angry outbursts, and he became a more caring individual in his relationship with his girlfriend. In short, getting and staying sober was the best decision Donald had ever made.
