Iscar Announces A Completely New Family Of Slitting Cutters Applying Tang-Grip Technology And The Sturdiness Of Sumo Tec Grades

Iscar now offers a family of high-performance slitting tools that combine the convenience and security of Tang-Grip clamping with the added sturdiness of the revolutionary Sumo Tec insert grades.

The conception, already validated effective in Tang-Grip parting tools, has now been spread to slitting cutters. In the patented Tang-Grip clamping system, inserts are press-fit into their pockets accompanied by a special hand tool, and are held securely in place without having the need without requiring clamps, upper jaws or set screws that can weaken the insert and obstruct chip flow. The pocket composition utilizes cutting forces to retain the insert seated tightly in position, eliminating any risk of insert pull-out. The Tang-Grip clamping system also fosters more accurate slitting cuts plus increased pocket and insert lifespan.

Iscar's Sumo Tec insert grades showcase a distinct post-coating treatment which greatly increases tool life and dependability.

Introduced in late '07, the new Sumo Tec treatment smooths the insert's coated surface to banish microscopic stress raisers, diminish heat and friction and boost chip flow. The result is enhanced toughness and opposition to chipping and built-up edge, all leading to greater tool life. The golden-colored flank on Sumo Tec inserts facilitates wear detection. Size for size, Tangslit cutters offer more teeth than Iscar's SGSF cutters, providing higher feed rates.

Their increased rigidity leads to straighter, better accurate cuts and lower vibration even in large-diameter cutters. The revolutionary Tangslit TGSF cutters come in 100 to 160 mm diameters, 3 and 4 mm widths and can accept the exact same selection of inserts as Tang-Grip parting tools. Additional sizes will be added.

Available Sumo Tec grades for Tangslit cutters include:
IC808, with a tough submicron substrate beneath a Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating, giving exceptional resistance to impact loads and built-up edge. This grade is suggested for slitting heat resistant alloys, austenitic stainless steel, hard alloys & carbon steel.

IC830, supplying increased toughness for heavier parting and grooving involving interrupted cuts. It is suitable for any stainless steel & high temperature alloys.

IC908, a hard, fine-grain substrate with superior chipping resistance, mixed with a completely new Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating. It is perfect for nodular or grey cast iron.

IC928 and 928A, PVD TiAlN-coated tough grades suitable for stainless steel, high temperature alloys and other alloy steels. These grades are also recommended for interrupted cuts and heavy operations.

Each Tangslit and Tang-Grip inserts are found in J- or C-type chipformer geometries from Iscar.
